VOiP Provider here in Canada....any recommendations?

I am currently sourcing a VOiP provider here in the Hamilton, Ontario area. We already have the fastest cableModem ISP service and I have found only a couple of providers. Cogeco cable (our ISP) at $89 monthly (which includes all LD in NA); Primus TBB service at $30 monthly (and 3.5 cents per LD in NA) and netFone.ca at $30 monthly (free in CA but 2.5 cents for continental US)

The Cogeco costs are like 3 times the other two...so they're not really "in the running" for us...but can someone else offer any other VOiP providers that are reliable etc etc.?

Jim

Hello Jim,

We use Vonage but have found the service to be very unreliable with periods of dead air during about a third of our calls. However, I do like the features they offer. Nevertheless, we are looking for a new phone company.

I'm afraid I can't comment on any other service providers because I have not heard anything about them. Try finding existing customers and talking to them about their experiences, particularly customers using the same ISP as you.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Jim,

Here are the providers I found when looking for this service in Canada but do not have any experience with them:
1) Babytel.ca with plans from $11 to $50/month
2) Vonage.ca with plans from $20 to $40/month
3) yak.ca from $35/month
4) comwave.net from $10/month
5) primus.ca from $15/month

You might also be interested in web-activated telephony like jajah.com or a service called voipbuster.com.

Hope this helps,
Alex

I believe Vonage would be a good choice, as its excellent here in US.
