Instructive stories from real projects to illustrate PMBOK materials
Would you share your own story from a real projects, real life situations that helps to illustrate any process groups and any knowledge areas of PMBOK. I'm looking for stories, anecdotes to use while explaining the material to students.

I completely agree with the statement that ideal world we read about in a book, and real life are staying way apart. With my own almost 20 years experience in software development I can concur with that statement. However, there are everyday situations happening, that remind me of the PMBOK, the best practices, the logical way to do things, the ethical way to do things, etc.
I can bring mine example. Once I've been in a project where project manager was completely disconnected from the team, and use to only collect the progress once a week. During that meeting with him everyone were silent about problems, as lead architect has instructed people not to bring bad news to the meeting with the project manager. I was a consultant, not a permanent employee, and I've realized that this is not the way team shall perform. I tried to talk to that PM in private, however he invited the architect to the meeting. After that meeting I gave them note and left. I was young. I didn't have enough knowledge what to do, what to tell them, and how to improve. I just felt it was wrong place for me to stay...
I'm collecting such stories, as they are the best way to bring students to the situational environment.
Now that story from my life allows me to see what from PMI point of view was violated in that environment. It's easier to analyze PMBOK materials in a group based on a real life situations.
So, if you have stories to share (without names, or with fake names) I'll be glad to bring them to my students. By the way, I'm not charging for teaching. This is a volunteering. I'm helping students to prepare for PMP exam in a self-study group.
Thank you,
Vitaliy
