Someone flagged Bob Dylan.....

...someone on this forum has flagged my Bob Dylan question!!!!

Isn't that pathetic?

I suppose one can flag God away too, but what does that say about the person doing teh flagging?

How do you feel about Dylan's lyrics being flagged?

Clarification added September 29, 2008:

Dylan's *profound* lyrics I may add.

Profound, socially conscious, philosophically curious, politically questioning, wisdom oriented lyrics, !!!!

Clarification added January 7, 2009:

I keep reintroducing this question so you may share your current favorites in Dylan lyrics.

I've been listening to Time Out of Mind for the last two days....

"Well, they'll stone you when you walk all alone.
They'll stone you when you are walking home.
They'll stone you and then say you are brave.
They'll stone you when you are set down in your grave.
But I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned."

I can tell you this Madhu, that by refusing to be cowed by intimidatory posts on other forums which then lead to a smear blog still hosted on Google and threats from a barrister concealing her indentity, the efforts my colleague and I were making to expose a human rights issue and the howls from those who did not want to believe it in the end helped attract the attention of those with the power to change things.

Next month, my colleague the author of the article which raised awareness of neglect and corruption in homes for disabled children is due to receive an accolade, for business which creates positive world change.

Me, I've been tuning in to Dylan's lyrics since 1963 and I'm sure that he has no slight or trivial influence in feeling the necessity to call out when something is clearly inhumane.

Tell them to keep throwing it because you can transmute it into something good.

I agree. Dylan's lyrics are brilliant. They transcend cultures and age groups because they speak to the human condition universally.
He always writes about what it is like to go through different stages in life. Angry young man, struggling to be a family man, disillusioned, happy, spiritual, questioning; it runs the gambit.
As for the flagging, I will rely on some lyrics from "Workingman Blues"

Now, I'm sailin' on back, ready for the long haul
Tossed by the winds and the seas
I'll drag ‘em all down to hell and I'll stand ‘em at the wall
I'll sell ‘em to their enemies
I'm tryin' to feed my soul with thought
Gonna sleep off the rest of the day
Sometimes no one wants what we got
Sometimes you can't give it away

Pretty much says it all.

The Irish Pub

Not an Irishman in sight
Three tiers up in the Irish Pub.
Only an Englishman and two Nepali
Occupy the vacuum in my head.
My Tuborg enslaves my attention
While Dylan scores the atmosphere,
Drawls out his nasal angst
Thirty years after Vietnam.
My head fills with the solitude
Riddling the streets of Katmandu.

Two years later at 17.19.
Same same singing the blues
On coke and sundry hangups.
Streets not mean but
Pumped up with tourists
And me climbing the sixties

Everybody Must Get Flagged

They'll flag you when you're trying to be so good
They'll flag you just like they said they would
They'll flag you when you're trying to go home
They'll flag you when you're there all alone
But I would not feel so all gagged
Everybody must get flagged

They'll flag you when you're walking on the street
They'll flag you when you're trying to keep your seat
They'll flag you when your walking on the floor
They'll flag you when your walking to the door
But I would not feel so all gagged
Everybody must get flagged

They'll flag you when you're at the breakfast table
They'll flag you when you are young and able
They'll flag you when you're trying to make a buck
They'll flag you and then they'll say good luck
But I would not feel so all gagged
Everybody must get flagged

Well They'll flag you and say that it's the end
They'll flag you and then they'll come back again
They'll flag you when you're riding in your car
They'll flag you when you're playing you guitar
Yes But I would not feel so all gagged
Everybody must get flagged
Alright

Well They'll flag you when you are all alone
They'll flag you when you are walking home
They'll flag you and then say they're all brave
They'll flag you when you're send down in your grave
But I would not feel so all gagged

Dylan's lyrics continue to be outstanding. His latest 'Tell Tale Signs' contains a version of "High Water" that will blow your socks off. It's the last song on the first disc. Go to expectingrain.com and look for the npr link. You're welcome.

How can one be so barbaric as to flag Dylan as unrelated to ... as you point out it's very pertinent. Our lyricists, writers, etc have always been a reflection of the society around them as well as the best dreams for society to acheive.

Sometimes I feel so low-down and disgusted
Can’t help but wonder what’s happenin’ to my companions,
Are they lost or are they found, have they counted the cost it’ll take to bring down
All their earthly principles they’re gonna have to abandon?
There’s a slow, slow train comin’ up around the bend.

And we wait for the train to come & crush the hypocrites & take the rest to salvation.

Madhu,

Perhaps they were living out the truth behind another of Bob Dylan's songs:

Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin south.
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
Youre an idiot, babe.
Its a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

From "Idiot Wind" from the immortal album "Blood on the Tracks".

My God! I think I finally found a group of "my people!" LMAO!

I thought I was the only one with the mantra of "Where there is trouble, I find it and where there is none, I create it!"

I was flagged just last week. I joined a group her on LI just to observe the behavior and comments that they display. The group was the Sarah Palin group. Please, do not correlate this with my political persuasion. I just wanted to observe.
Right after the VP Debates, there were comments out there singing Sarah Palin's praises and asking the other members to "drink the kool-aid" that they were passing out in praise of Sarah Palin.
When I commented that I wanted to see more substance from her and not the jabs that she offered, I was met with an insane amount of animosity. I went back and looked at what I had wrote in case I became mentally retarded and accidentally wrote something that I was thinking by mistake. Nope, didn't write anything offensive.
But the mere presence of my objectiveness was reason enough for someone to flag me.
How sick is that?

Here are some of Bob's lyrics as I close my comments:

"Come you masters of war... you that build thebig guns... you that build the death planes... you that build all the bombs... you that hide behind walls... you that hide behind desks... I just a want you to know I can see through your masks... You that never done nothin'... but build to destroy... you play with my world... like it's your little toy... you put a gun in my hand... and you hide from my eyes... and you turn and run farther when the fast bullets fly... Like a Judas of old... you lie and decieve... a world war can be won... you want me to believe... but I see through your eyes... and I see through your brain... like I see through the water that runs down my drain... You've fastend all the triggers... for the others to fire... and then you set back and watch... while the death count gets higher... and you hide in your mansion... while the young people's blood... flows out of their bodies and is buried in the mud... You've thrown the worst fear... that can ever be hurled... afraid to bring children... into the world... and for threatening my baby... unborn and unnamed... you ain't worth the blood that runs in your viens... How much do I know... to talk out of turn... you might say that I'm young... you might say I'm unlearned... but there's a one thing I know... though I'm younger than you... even Jesus would never forgive what you do... And let me ask you one question... is your money that good... will it buy you forgiveness... do you think that it could... I think you will find... when your death takes its toll... all the money you made will never buy back your soul... And I hope that you die... and your death will come soon... I'll follow your casket... on a pale afternoon... I'll watch while you're lowered... down to your deathbed... and I'll stand over your grave til I'm sure that you're dead."

However, I think Dylan, Madonna, and Jane Fonda are the three biggest frauds of our time. None have more than pedestrian talent, but all are superb at marketing.
