Jesse - Mine came the day I found myself without a job, but with huge debt and a family that depended on me. I hit the road as a commsiion salesperson - went even deeper in debt to build a business - with no assurance that any of it would work - but my family supported me, lots of people bought from me, and I found one or two real friends.

It took a long time, but everyone got paid, my marriage got stronger, the children stayed in good schools, and I learned that I could do things I would have never imagined doing.

It wasn't spectacular - just ground it out day to day - but all the bricks add up. Sometimes I wonder how we are going to get through or get something done, but I know we can.

When the door is locked, try the window.

In 2000, when I had worked for an animation convention as a volunteer and was asked what people wanted for the next year. when I expressed my opinion it was shot down. I'm not the kind of person to wait for other people to do things, so I started an organization, then an event, then a publishing company of my own. i'm still the only one in the world that focuses on the genre I do and we've had 5 events, 9 books and a host of interesting experiences since then. :-)

I don't regret a thing I've done and look forward to the next 9 years.

Cheers,

There have been several. As a student I wanted to become member of a particular student association, but it did not exist in Amsterdam; then and there I decided to found one and two years later I stepped of after two successful terms as Founding President and honorary member; the association still exists after 20+ years ..

When my employment after many years reached a point that I could no longer grow and develop the way I wanted as an employee I decided to step out and create my own business. I am still very glad I took that step.

As part of these two examples there were a few fundamental ingredients: believe in own talents and strengths; willingness to learn from errors; support from family and friends, and colleagues; support from peers in the network.

Talking about growth from others: One thing I learned and use quite often is that every problem usually once was the solution to another problem. Unravel this chain and several options to solve emerge ..

And this brings us to decision-making: True leaders make the right decision, at the right moment for the right persons the right way .. The point here is "make .. decision", not foot-dragging, stone-walling, or any other way to avoid making the true decision while giving the impression that "big" decisions are in the making (but never come out, or do emerge too late). And in the meantime keep open eyes, ears, and feel how the organization responds.

Jesse,

It is very important to have your convictions right for moving ahead in your life. Once you decide this is the path on which i travel, no matter how difficult it is, rest of the journey will be lot easier. It is very important for a person to have a belief & then choosing the path to achieve it.
My convictions from my upbringing & my own belief based on my readings , teachings was , to choose a path of sincerity & integrity. I have decided my career will be based on these two pillars. Till now i have done my professional journey based on these two pillars. On the way i had to fight several little battles to keep these two strong point of my conviction intact. I lost opportunity to move ahead on professional ladder but i never compromised on that. I did not achieve much position wise but i am very happy & contended that i achieve my livelihood by never compromising on my believes & convictions.

Jesse every day of our life is a challenge & every conflict is a battle. How you overcome the challenge & win the battle depends on your courage, convictions & your belief about your capabilities.

Thanks & with regard
