Financial advisers/wealth managers: Looking for advisers with their own blog

I'm looking for advisers who have their own blogs related to their work (or who have had one or who are thinking about one).

I started FPPad.com in January 2008 to address the issues independent advisers have incorporating technology within financial planning firms. As an operations manager, I'm always looking for technology solutions to add efficiency to firm processes and scalability to support firm growth.

My blogroll links to several advisers and consultants who maintain non-commercial blogs. Included are:

Ben Utley, CFP®: http://www.physicianfamilyfinancialadvisorsblog.com
Michael Kitces, CFP®, etc.: http://www.kitces.com/blog/index.php
Russ Thornton, CFP®: http://www.thorntonwealth.com

Finally, check out Matt Abar's WealthFly.com, he has several reviews of advisers that maintain blogs. Some of the blogs are more commercial than others. Visit http://wealthfly.com/blog/category/advisors

Davis,

Bill Winterberg already beat me to it, but I publish a blog at www.thorntonwealth.com

In addition, I enjoy Bill's blog at FPPad.com along with the other sites he mentions in his answer. I also enjoy BehaviorGap.com, among others.

I am considering one. I am concerned about creating another time commitment to maintain it. I am curious what the return on the time investment has been for those who maintain a blog.

Hi Davis,

We have looked into this and considered it to be an important tool but can't get past the compliance end of it. As every blog is essentially advertising the oversight seems to take away from the spontaneity and intimacy of the process.

Hope you are doing well.

I have utilized a blog for my practice for over 3 years. I have found it to be an extremely effective tool to communicate with my clients and prospects. I used the Wordpress CMS, which allows for a web novice to add content (i.e. write posts) and manage his or her site. With a little html knowledge, you can start to do some pretty cool things such as linking to other pages on your site or to other sites that are discussing similiar topics. Level Ten Interactive developed my site and it was very affordable. Here are links to my site and Level 10:

Hi, Davis. My colleague Matt MacEachern forwarded your request to me. I produce what you might classify as a blog, but I'll leave it to you to determine if it fits your criteria. About once a week I write GreenThought$, which is sent to clients, friends and other investment advisors. If you go to our firm's website, www.emeraldassetadvisors.com, you will see a link to the past issues (through July) on the home page. Check it out and let me know if I can help you with the story or project you are working on. I have been a contributor to Investment News several times as you will see if you search my last name, Isbitts, on your site. Bruce Kelly and others there know us well. Let me know via email at risbitts@emeraldasset.com if we should speak on this. Glad to help if I can.

Best regards,

Rob
