What are you doing to be a remarkable Realtor or what do you expect from a remarkable Realtor?
After reading Seth Godwn's book Purple Cow, I now have to ask the group, what do you consider to be remarkable in this field? I'm curious what others percieve and expect from those practicing. I'll be using this research to modify my business to achieve remarkable status.

Hi Craig,
We try to utilize the Platinum Rule in our business - do unto others as they would have done unto them. We all have different styles of communication, receiving information, analyzing our situation and such. If you provide information to a "Driver" the same way you do to a "Social" person, you'll drive them nuts! Being able to be flexible and communicate with your clients in their preferred method (e-mail, phone calls, text... whatever they want) is on your way to being remarkable. Most people come from their perspective and do business the way *they* do business instead of their client's way.
Ask questions. Dig deep. REALLY understand your client's needs - I don't just mean we have 2 kids, so we need a 3 bedroom. I mean, understand that I have one teenage girl who's hogging the bathroom all the time, broods in her room, that we're having difficulty connecting with and one son who's pre-teen, always in his sister's business, driving her crazy, looking for his independence and realizing how fast they grow up, wanting to have a place where we can connect as a family. This information will help you find them a home where the floor plan is so much different than if they had twins who had to be together all the time. Make sense?
Really care for them. Help them find the best deal for them and also save them from themselves. If they're building a custom home, be there and remind them that they didn't want to go over budget or that x, y, and z was really important to put into the home. If they're a first time home owner and are very drawn to a community that you know in the long term will not be a good investment for them, be sure to point it out. After they have closed on the home, keep in touch with them, offer them your expertise, advice and helpful information. Be a true Godsend to them. Create a garden around them so that you can be their trusted advisor and they always come to you for guidance and information & so that you can refer them to people you know who will also give them knock-out service and save them from the poor experience they might have otherwise had.
Keep up. Know your stuff. Read. Be a sponge. Network. Know about technology or anything that will help them sell their home for more or faster. If you don't know the answer, know the person who does. Solve their problems! Consistently think of ways you can give to them. (Along with this remember to only hire clients who appreciate the service you give them and fire takers!) Know about online virtual tours, houses that talk and send text to their phone. Go to their prospective new home if they're out of town and create a virtual tour for them and send it to them. Know their market. Read up on new commercial that's going into the area.
Be above reproach.
Those are some thoughts for now....
Best wishes,
Terri Hayley

Craig, I have seen many remarkable Realtors in my 30 years as a Realtor, Broker, Manager, and now as an agent. Remarkable agents today are the one's who have the ability to last. Frankly, I am surprised more have not gotten out of the business. However, in addition to that I feel there are many attributes to a successful agent. They must be very well groomed in working with people of all walks of life. Families moving up, divorce cases, transferees, bank foreclosures, seniors moving down, and many others.
With 85%+ of all buyers searching the Internet, prior to ever contacting an agent, it is imperative that agents today have a technology plan in place with a good website, a Blog, a good database, follow up system and understand how to communicate with the e-consumer. Clients today normally would rather email, otherwise they would have called. Most agents don't get it, when it comes to email and do not understand permission marketing. A remarkable agent in today's market will also be active in social networking and using the best marketing tools to promote sellers homes. Lastly, good old fashion customer service is still the name of the game in any business and real estate will always remain a people business. "Expect the Best" Mike

Craig,
I am a Realtor in Scottsdale and have found that honesty/full disclosure, communication, creative solutions, customer service and advocating your clients position, not yours, are some of the most important things I can do to be a remarkable Realtor. There are obviously many traits that make a remarkable Realtor but those are the few that I see as most important in my business practices.
total unbasied honesty to buyer and seller

Remeber what your mother taught you...play nice with others and the Golden Rule and you will never be at a loss for people who trust you and will refer you.
Great question!
Bye for now,
Joe
There's never been a time that was more favorable to creative marketing ideas than now and yet only a fraction of Realtors are taking advantage of the possibilities to represent both Buyers and Sellers on the Internet with the available technology. Having said that, in my opinion it's many of the basics that make a Realtor remarkable:
1) a Realtor who consistently follows the Code of Ethics
2) be well informed about the market so you can help the consumer
3) understand the laws of Agency and represent your client fully
4) be honest to a fault
5) continue to learn and change
6) listen to and genuinely care your clients
7) get a camera with a wide angle lens and know how to use it
8) have professional marketing materials that represent your clients
9) have a website
10) have a Blog
11) use the technology that benefits your clients
12) read your email on your hand held and respond asap
