Do you believe this is an appropriate way to add social and economic value to the use of Twitter and LinkedIn?

LinkedIn Discussion Postings:

FundRaising For WildlifeAid in the UK - Follow Simon Cowell on Twitter @wildlifeaid

I got a phone call from the lovely Simon Cowell ( http://twitter.com/wildlifeaid ) at 5:22am the other morning - well, it was 11:00pm for him - and a RT on Twitter about a fund raising drive for his charity, that I have helped to set up from Australia . He didn't know I existed until then - but I believe he has an incredible project on hand and deserves support.

He is just the most fantastic person and has a real dream about establishing a fully fledged rehab centre. Please check him out and follow him. His group needs the support of Twitter users - financially and to spread the word.

FundRaising For WildlifeAid in the UK - Follow Simon Cowell on Twitter @wildlifeaid

Background: Through Twitter I became aware of Simon Cowell's effort to run a sustainable Wildlife Rehabilitation Service in the UK - and that they needed money. On Twitter - @wildlifeaid had only a couple of hundred followers and I took it upon myself to do something to help them. I used a Twitter app to set up a donation facility and started to tweet. Because it is much more effective to direct interested people to the home page, I have edited Simon's RT so that using the link takes you directly to there - rather than to a third party donation site.

I am interested in finding out if people want more from LinkedIn than just business connections - so, should we be expecting LinkedIn to add to social values in society generally, as well as just business connections, by members willing aligning themselves with social issues.

The question is slightly misdirected. The above mentioned scenario is an appropriate way to add social and economic value to people, who are connected through Linkedin or twitter.

Linkedin has proved to be an excellent tool for professional networking and business marketing. Twitter, which revolutionized the social media with microblogging, has had a tremendous impact on integrated marketing campaigns. So much so that, any marketing challenge remains incomplete without its use today. These are undisputed leaders in media industry.

With such huge influence of tools like linkedin & twitter, on people and companies, it would be an act of selfishness if, we do not use them for social causes. It is the responsibility of all social networkers, to understand & realize that they have the potential to do something for the society. That, they can use their network to spread the message of humanity and can be of service to communities or people, who are engaged in social work.

They surely can make their life more meaningful and purposeful, by effective use of Linkedin and Twitter.

I invite you and your friend to follow @Teddy_Salad, a non-commercial endeavor that is supportive of animal rescue. @Teddy_Salad also has become influential in support of NASA. Perhaps, these interests seem quite far apart. However, I also run @NextwaveRay, which is a for-profit science and news aggregator.

I am in public relations as well. I believe people want the kind of information you are providing. If anyone else agrees, please comment.

Creating Social & Economic Value I believe would primarily be from the people. I believe if the value you are finding is the value of people assisting then, yes. There are many causes online doing great things with the power of Social media.

If you believe that Twitter should be the driving engine for this, then it is indeed appropriate. It is possible to get more followers than connections.

If you're interested in helping create rehab centres for disable children, how about following me at @soecentsoftware. As a social enterprise our mission in Ukraine changed direction with the 'Death Camps for Children" story

So far we've persuaded Ukraine's government of the need for 400+ rehab centres and we describe how on our website.

That's far from the end of the story. This children are still at risk in spite of newly discovered CSR.

I believe that every small business should be a walking talking public relations advocate for their company that's why I train small business operators in media skills in small groups so they can get out their messages.
Most small businesses can't afford to retain full time public relations consultants so I have found that they respond to my media training in small groups for a modest outlay.

Lou
