How are you using search engine synonym lists?
I’m familiar with search engine synonym lists being used for these 3 types of information:
(1) Interchangeable words. For example, synonyms for computer could be PC, personal computer, and laptop.
(2) Commonly misspelled words. For example, synonyms for neighborhood could be nieghborhood and neighborhod.
(3) Common words with multiple spellings. For example, a synonym for theater could be theatre.
How are you using search engine synonym lists? Are you using them for other types of information?
Thanks!
Joe

We use them to give to our writers for the content creation part of the program. We tend to look at related phrases, words, concepts and themes. This helps them take some of the guess work out of the process and allows them to focus on writing. We supply the core targets, secondary and then list of related concepts and phrases… smooths the process…
The there are query modifiers for informational, navigational, transactional and geo-modifiers. These lists while not semantically related, build out the targets even further and can be mapped against the primary and secondary terms…
..there’s a few off the top o me head…

You can use these to bid on paid search in order to get visibility on front pages on search engines if you dont show on natural listings.
I often use interchangeable words in my SEO, ie, CPA, certified public accountant. There are a host of words interchangeable that are targeted during my keyword research. I work in public accounting and the industry is also awash in acronyms, ie, CPA, IRS, SOX, SEC, FAS 109, FIN 48. These are all terms that I have optimized for in combo with the long hand version of these terms.
In terms of optimizing for misspellings, I don't think this has the value that is often attributed to it. When the major search engines encounter a spelling error, they will offer an alternative word or include both results. Very often, their alternative choice is usually the word spelled as nature intended; in effect, negating any alleged value attributed to the missspelling. Hope this answers your question.
For deciding what alternate domains to buy. Like KilleenFire KillenFire, KileenFire etc.

Not sure if you are using like/misspelled words to help your SEO efforts or AdWord efforts but either way, I believe your time would probably be better spent contemplating other things (except with the possiblilty of domain selection). Either way, I linked this answer to some great info on Semantic Indexing that Google is doing as well as a typo generator.
