Beyond the basics of SEO?
Does anyone have a good suggestion for books, websites, seminars, etc. for continued learning of SEO/SEM? I have all the basic understanding to get the job done, I'm AdWords Certified, and I've had success, but I want to take everything to the next level. Thanks!

Alex,
I am currently at the Search Engine Strategies Expo in San Jose. The seminars are really helpful, as is the networking with panelist and display contacts. There are several SES Expos at different locations throughout the year. I have met a few people from the Web Analytics Association, a few from Google, and have learned about other search marketing vendors that focus on each process from keyword to portals.
There are other events (Web Analytics Associations has base camp sessions for interest regarding web analytics) and SEMPRO has events listed as well.
Hope this helps.
Pierre

One of my favorite books is the New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott. He also has a great blog - WebInkNow. Essentially, he talks about the "old rules" of marketing - outbound tactics such as television advertising, cold calling, direct mail, etc. and transforming it into the "new rules" of marketing - buzz, viral, SEO, blogging, podcasting, etc. People have all of these tools now to block out marketing messages (tivo, satellite radio, do not call list, can-spam). We want to capture the visitors who are already semi-qualified by searching for specific keywords, participating in blogs, and using social media.
It's been instrumental for me in building my internet marketing methodology.

Hi Alex,
The SES and SMX conferences are very good. If you don't have it in your budget to attend the conferences then I suggest getting a Twitter account and following Search Engine Roundtable. SE Roundtable has been posting summaries of all of the SES San Jose presentations.
There are a TON of websites and blogs that regularly report on the latest industry news, topics, and techniques.
My favorites are:
SEO Book
Search Engine Watch
SiteProNews
Search Engine Roundtable
Good luck.

I agree with Patti. Set up a RSS reader and subscribe to feeds on SEO/SEM . Books & seminars are great for gleaning ideas but the scene is so dynamic; what you learn in 1 day could be invalid the next.
