PR is to MARKETING as, SOFTWARE is to a COMPUTER.
Without software one can not do much with a computer. Same holds for PR. Without PR, one can not market and promote services or a company to the fullest extend. PR also is essential for strong, solid support that lets users get where they're going efficiently and with reassurance.

FREE is to PAID.
"You get what you pay for..." is not the modus operandi however.
Unpaid messages are relatively untainted by commerce and more readily accepted. Their cleaner signal is less controlled than a commercial message where you get to say exactly what you want to because you're paying to control the message - presentation and delivery.

Ms. Lindsay:

I have always said public relations, and sales, are subsets of marketing. This tends to unhinge practitioners in either “subset.” My comparison has always been painting, dance, sculpture, photography all fall under the realm of art.
