George A
Principal Consultant at Anderson & Anderson Organizational Anger Management
I will be the subject of an article in the Los Angeles Magazine to be published in December. How can I maximize the marketing potential of this P.R.?
I am the major provider in the niche market of anger management. Anger management and executive coaching with a focus on anger is increasing in popularity. I have managed to do exceptionally well without any paid adversisement I would like to maintain my dominance of this market.

Publicize your interview like crazy...include a link as part of your email signature...include color copies in your media/press kit or in the information you send to potential clients...link it to your web page...highlight it on your website...frame a copy and keep it in your office where potential clients can see it...
But make sure you get permission or officially purchase copies of the article, there's nothing worse than having your credibility damaged because you've improperly circulated something copyrighted.
Then forge a great professional relationship with the author, and perhaps you'll become a "go-to" expert for the magazine when they have similar articles (I think Sheri mentioned that as well).

George,
You fill a need-May I make a suggestion? Find out what the writer's, editor's, and publisher's goals are within the segment you'll be interviewed for. Who is their demographic/target audience, and what type of information delivers value to lawyers, media executives, physicians, and entrepreneurs-just taking a stab here. You could even ask LA magazine for their media kit. By being prepared to answer their questions and tell your truthful story in a way that delivers value to their market, you'll maximize your coverage. Also, you'll be remembered as a good interview/partner should another opportunity arise for this writier of for their colleague through a contact at the local yoga studio or at Skybar-or wherever people are moving&shaking in LA these days.
Cheers,
Sherri
Clarification added September 22, 2007:
George, by the looks of your profile you don't actually need any help in this department-PR. Your question did make me think though and I wanted to answer why it is people in Silicon Valley can have such productive relationships with media: It boils down to leadership.
#1) There is good communication between media, academia, and business on common goals.
#2) the publishers are good leaders(for the most part;-) or there is leadership somewhere in the organization that drives clear objectives, goals, and behaviors that make it easy and clear for a business partner or customer to identify priorities.-Great publishers? Gentry, San Jose Magazine, great leadership? San Jose Mercury News, Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.
Without a clear identification of priorities to the external person/partner the methodology I described above would not work.
Cheers,
SD
Hi George,
My girlfriend was fortunate enough to have both an interview and picture in LA Magazine. We made a very good PDF of the article and sent it out to her network and bout a dozen copies. I believe it helped her get two jobs. It's interesting that people put a lot a stock in the written word. A magazine article brings with it a presumption of credibility.

Offer a few free seats (maybe to those in need who cannot pay) to your class(es) and make sure this is mentioned in the article/interview.

Hi George,
Anger management is critical today. If there is a way to include the "prevention" of anger by counseling prior to a event try to focus on that. You may also want to run ads in the follow up issues to drive it home to corporations.
Sheilah
Anger Management is a growing field, but I amazed at how much people really don't know about how this discipline can benefit companies, families and goverment. I suggest you utilize this opportunity to highlight how anger management services have benefited others. Taking the focus off yourself and placing it on the needs of others may be a marketing paradox that yields profit.
