How do podcasts fit into a company's Integrated Marketing Communications?
I'm looking for insights from industry professionals for my MBA blog on the Financial Post (Canada) and my Internet Marketing Class.
I love podcasts, but would like to know opinions of marketing professionals about how effective they really are.
Thank you!

They are useful with some complex subjects where text would be less effective at conveying material. They also can be good for partner / channel enablement ... load up an inexpensive iPod with training materials and the partner gets an education and a gadget.
MailChimp (no affiliation) is one of my favorite email providers, primarily because they have podcasts in iTunes that help their users make better use of their tools. I can watch a 5 minute video that provides training value and saves me time. By making their clients successful, they increase loyalty and build long-term relationships.
Podcasts are also useful with technical audiences and when the topics to be covered can be debated or there are different approaches to solve a problem or to finding solutions. They have nice applicability across a range of B2B and B2C applications.
Do they help generate revenue? I believe so. A well-prepared podcast can inform, entertain and influence. When a company has particular expertise to share, podcasts can be a great vehicle for that.
As with all marketing -- content is king. Podcasts will fail if they don't add value to the listener.

Hi Alice,
Podcasting in my opinion is a great marketing tool! I worked for a PR firm and podcasting helped grow out customer base over 300% in 2 years!
Podcasts can bring you in new potential customers, help brand your company, increase website visibility & SEO (if you do it right!), and convey the companies message in a more personal light.
Good luck,
Austin Leo

I like podcasts too but I think they have a niche following. People seem to want soemthing to look at so video is where it's at.
