How would you promote a new website?
I am launching a new website, the Hall of Awesomeness (http://www.HallOfAwesomeness.com). I have sent an e-mail out to my friends and family. What else would you suggest that would be no cost right now?
Thank you!

1. Get other websites with a higher google page rank to link to your site.
2. Make Sure your keywords are appropriate to your website content.
optimize your web site to make sure google can index it, don't duplicate your content. and after that do a directory submission which will raise the back link count of your web site.

Add meta tags that contain the awesome person's name as a keyword and in a meta description. An RSS feed would be great also.
I found this idea so good I blogged about it. See link below.
Links:
SEM and SEO. I'd also tie this in with Google Analytics (which is free). Finally, do some article marketing with PRweb: http://www.prweb.com/. It is relatively inexpensive.
I'd start utilizing social media. Digg, Reddit, etc. are great, but current favorite is StumbleUpon. I'll submit the site to SU and let's see if any traffic flows that way...

Try using linkreferral.com to get traffic. Took at free posting sites as well.

Try making a group on Facebook for this site....Participate in the "general" section of some forums to make it known.... Make a yahoo group about it...Talk about it when you're with friends....Blog about it....!

1. You must definitely think how to position your website and answer a question who may be interested in visiting it on a frequent basis.... Based on that you must pick carefully the keywords in search engine's campaigns that will create traffic to your website and not waste your budget on click-throughs done by people not interested in your site.
2. Make relations with larger www portals and make click-through agreements. The portals you talk to should have a target group similar to yours...
3. Use banners on other websites to promote your site... (may be expensive, depening on the site)
4. Depending on the budget you can close a deal with a site and provider that delivers e-mail services and make a spamming campaign that will inform users of email accounts registered with that portal about your site and services.
There are plenty more ways.... but all depends on the budget...

I checked out your site. An intriguing idea. You need to define your market and then join some yahoo groups who might be in your target audience.

Hi, Sophie! I wrote a blog entry with more than 25 ideas about getting publicity and traffic. While many of the ideas might relate only to my field, some of the ideas are generic, have low or no cost and may be helpful to you. Best wishes for your success!
