Does anyone have experience of benefit from identifying individuals tweeting for brand?

My belief is that a corporate presence on Twitter will be more effective when the person or people tweeting can be identified (e.g. with more than one, some list the people, provide initials and then the individual adds her or his initials to the tweet). I would love to have evidence that this is indeed beneficial - and if not, I may need to be more cautious in arguing for it!

Des I am not aware of any such research -- I suppose someone has done something like that since there have always been discussions about anonymous and corporate tweeting -- I remember when it was revealed that Guy Kawasaki was using staff to author his tweet and there was a mini-uproar at that. One of the reasons I use Twitter much much less than Google+ is that I realized how "corporate" my Twitter stream had become where individual people weren't clearly associated with the stream. Since listmaking in Twitter is so cumbersome I've reduce my use.

I don't have any evidence but I believe it installs a sense of trust. I also think that with social marketing, people like to be able to identify the voice, or person, behind the brand. This is why personality or humour works well because it's not corporate – you know it's not the brand talking to you but a person behind it.

I've personally seen examples of companies revealing the names of those who tweet/post on facebook on their behalf.

A recent article on The Next Web comes to mind: http://thenextweb.com/socialmedia/2011/08/27/meet-the-18-people-behind-your-favorite-social-media-accounts/

See there an example of Virgin America -- they use personal signage revealing those who tweet for the brand.

I tweet for brands and have identified myself across the board very recently. I have seen no change in responses or follows in that time, but maybe it is a long-term investment. I do think it creates trust with consumers in a B2C relationship to know the brand isin't a bot.

Hello,

I think companies should definitely benefit if different individuals tweet for brand. It gives companies more credibility from independent sources.
Moreover, individuals can also benefit as they've become brand advocates.

Kind Regards, Aygul

Clarification added 7 months ago:

I think it doesn't matter very much if the person who tweets for brands can be identified. Unless, the company wants to reward the individuals or make them brand advocates officially.
The most important thing for company is that people speak favorably about it on social media channels.
