Need information on Certifications
Dear All,
I am an MBA (Marketing) + B.E. (Computers). I have 4.8 years of work experience with 2.8 years in Business Development for the US/UK geography. I also have a RFID foundation course certificate and have also completed my Six Sigma Green Belt training.
I am thinking of the following certifications:
1. CAPM - Certified Associate in Project Management
2. CeMA - Certified eMarketing Associate
3. ITIL/ ITSM Certification
I would like to pursue a certification course which would help me get involved with the other aspects of Business Development like Project Management, Proposals, Marcomm etc something different from just sales (lead generation).
It would be great if you can advise me on the same.
Also it would be great if you could direct me to the organizations which provide these certifications in India.
Thanks & Regards,
Saurav

Hi Saurav!
Well your profile seems to be very impressive.
I presume that you wish to continue your career in Business Development or Marketing.
If you just want to build your knowledge related to Business Development, I would not suggest you to go for a Certification course in Project Management as most of the PM courses deal with following 05 process groups, of which BD is just a small part. The main focus is on Sl. 2 to 5:
1) Initializing (BD/Tendering related work)
2) Planning
3) Execution
4) Monitoring & Controlling
5) Closing
In case you want to make yourself aware of the whole process chain, then yes, going for a PM course is advisable. You may choose any of the following certificates for that matter:
a) Project Management Professional (PMP) - from Project Management Institute (PMI), USA. (www.pmi.org) ----- MOST REPUTED ----
b) Master Project Manager (MPM) - from American Academy of Project Managers (www.projectmanagementcertification.org)
c) Certified Project Manager (CPM) - from Project Management Leadership Group (www.pmlg.com)
CAPM is a lower version of CPM.
I would recommend you PMP, as it is the most popular and recognized certification. Moreover, you have many test centers in India to give the examination and at the same time enjoy networking through the monthly network meetings of various Indian PMI chapters. You may visit the website for further details.
In case you wish to sharpen your Management skills with yet another certification, I would recommend you Certified Business Manager (CBM) – from Association of Professionals in Business Management (APBM), USA (www.apbm.org) whose test centers are available in all major cities of India.
For sharpening your marketing skills, CeMA is the only reputed certification so far I have heard of. If I’m not mistaken, you will have to appear for 2 1/2 hour online test to get that. You may visit eMarketing Association’s website www.emarketingassociation.com for further details.

I would recommend PMP or PRINCE2, and ITIL Foundations.
