I think I understand what you might be looking for! If I have it right the you are looking for "Online Market Research Tools".
Since I do not know which industry and what kind of services your research is focussed on my answer would be a bit general.
In order to gather information about "new market trends" in the IT industry you have to be very well versed with technology portals and blogs. It is in these places where many of the discussions happen about existing and new technologies. Also keep reading industry reports from Gartner as they provide advice and insights to support competitive decision making across the IT spectrum.
It will not reap you results in a day or two but soon you'll get the hang of it and then you would be well conversant with the "market trends" which would be helpful for you to do your market research on IT firms.
