want to change my career track from Presales to Oracle or SAP

Hi I am working as a presales consultant and now I want to switch into Oracle or SAP as a functional consultant. I have a concrete 2.7 years of experience, can someone please advice me as to which technology would be beneficial? and what would be my prospects?

Just go for it. The best advice I have is to be humble and ask a functional analyst/consultant for a walk through. I had a boss that basically did what you are talking about except that he became a functional manager not a consultant. You understand the higher level needs of a client, now just pick a system and dive into the details. Once you have the basic knowledge of one system, picking up the next system will take half the time. Start by learning the details of whatever part of the system you know best from your pre-sales days.

Sheetal,

my advice is to choose one of the companies first, then to learn about the functional part of the software you know best from your current experience. So if your knowledge is SCM then go for SCM initially (add the foundation technology to some extent), not for something else - at least not in depth.

Both companies are viable and will offer opportunities. The culture differs, though.

Best regards
Thomas
