With the recent announcement from Facebook about changes to the site, will this directly or indirectly affect brands who advertise on it?

Will brands benefit from the Timeline and its ability to 'tell a story'?

So far, from the data analysis people I've spoken to who work with Facebook ads, the changes have had a positive effect on click-throughs...maybe because the right-side panel changes are forcing folks to look over there? Not sure yet.

It will take time to find out what effect the Timeline changes will have, but I can't imagine that it will be a bad thing for advertising brands. In fact, it should help to counter the "ad fatigue" that many have seen creeping into the space in recent months.

What used to be a more level playing field in the beginning has been shifting. Bigger brands that have the cash to dump into massive ad campaigns are squeezing out the little guys.

It will be interesting to see how things settle once the new Timeline rolls out.

Many folks I speak with don't like the new changes and will be leaving Facebook... Most likely, this may make Facebook sit up and actually start listening to the very individuals who made the company a success in the first place...

Change, for change sake is never a good option...

Yahoo mail's recent so called upgrade is a prime example of fixing something that didn't need to be fixed...

Facebook has managed a great lead over all Social networking sites. Hence, the changes if any will not really matter. People will get used to it.

If the current feature is not suiting you directly, you find a way out as you are sure to reach a large client base on FB.

72% of FB users hate the new changes but does it matter to FB of course not what they are after and why they did the changes to match Goggle+ that is a real threat to FB for the 1st time and they didnt see it coming especially that it is now open to everyone on the net
So far on G+ no businesses can have profiles they have to be all personal but they are working on that side then FB will really have to listen to their members
Now that businesses will have alternatives if FB doesnt listen they will join Myspace in few years no one is too big to fall few years ago everyone thought that Myspace is undefeatable but look what happened social media are made by the people for the people and it is the people that can bring them down

It will affect B2B brands. The change helps define the value-added of Google+ for early adopters. It's an ideal B2B environment that allows you to interacting more fully, deeply with your Twitter buds.

For consumer brands, it once again invites Facebook followers to set customize settings. The result could be more filtering, less viewing, and traffic.

I think Timeline is great for brands but poor for users. Who wants to see everything people do online? It dilutes the value of Facebook. I've put my rant in my blog for you to read here - http://peterscobie.com/2011/09/29/is-facebook-timeline-doomed/
