I agree with Tejas that Pinterest is definitely gaining popularity among many companies. There are some companies that are getting a lot more referrals from Pinterest than Facebook due to the picture exposures they get from Pinterset. If you are a creative or visual company, Pinterest will have a greater effect for referral than Facebook since Pitnerest is mainly for pictures.

Many businesses are using it to showcase their products. Retailers use it to showcase their clothing by creating boards to teach people how to dress up, mix and match different clothing, clothing that will be coming next season and etc. Website designer can showcase the work that they’ve done in the past or any creative design they have.

Pinterst definitely give people a better picture of how your company is compared to Facebook’s status update. Furthermore, pictures are easier to entice and attract people to your webpage.

However, I also agree with Benjamin that due to Pinterst’s term of use, a lot of users might stop using Pinterest. If you haven’t heard about it, check out the link attached. It basically talks about how the user that uploaded the image is held responsible for any law suit if the original creator sues Pinterest.

Pinterest is definitely gaining popularity and I think for some businesses it might be comparable to Facebook in terms of importance. In my view, the fundamental difference between Pinterest and others is the level of selflessness Pinterest offers.

On FB, Twitter etc, the net result of our activity is a spotlight on yourself or your company. But Pinterest offers a fresh tone to sharing stuff - something which is less about you or what you do but more about "check this out - some of you might like it". This is probably one of the reasons why people are taking an interest in Pinterest.

Due to this aspect, I feel that Pinterest will offer a great platform for third party content curation (for brands) which will lend positive validation from others. The categories drive the center of gravities to be formed for different areas and once they have a sizable user base (100m plus)the ads play could get real targeted - e.g. "an offer to folks who love design homes" or "an offer to women interested in pottery" etc.

Would love to connect up if you are interested in discussing more. We have recently startedmainstreaming Pinterest.

Also accaching a link you might find handy.

Pinterest is huge, it's still an invite only as well. If your ideal customer is women 18-34 they are there. I don't think that Facebook will ever go away, Pinteret may become more popular, but you do things differently there than you do on Facebook and other social networking sites.

I dont' use it for my business, because we are a service based business. Something I will offer to you is to make sure you read the terms and service agreement. Posting photos that are not yours is starting to get some people into legal trouble. Also, an architecture firm had issues sharing design photos that people could take and use. This was another issue and problem I've read about.

Understand how Pinterest works and how to use it safely. You don't want to put yourself into any legal issues.

According to Compete, unique visitors to Pinterest.com increased by 429% from September to December 2011, and the social network already boasts a user base of 3.3 million. Pinterest is only growing in popularity as the hottest new social network, and in December 2011, it made Hitwise's list of the top 10 social networks, currently sitting at #5 and beating out big names like LinkedIn and Google+.

Here are a list of brands that are utilising Pinterest and apply it into their marketing strategy. Hope that'll help, Qiyu! :)
