We are developing project to promote Armenian Art worldwide and would like to know if we are on right way

We are presenting and promoting art from common ground of culture they have been grown and taking in account the influence of society. We promote them as Armenian Art with the slogan “Armenian Art Revealed”. What you think, will the western society accept this kind of positioning and is it possible to go other way?

Interesting question.

"Armenian Art Revealed" does not move me. Might as well say, Discover Armenian Art.

Questions:
What is your audience? Diaspora Armenians? Non-Armenians?
When you used the word "revealed" what are you suggesting was hidden or veiled?

I was thinking about some play on the age old culture and the vibrant modernism. e.g.
Armenian Art: An age old culture expressed in a new light
Old as the stones, as new as today
Bring a little Armenia into your life

I hope these help you or trigger some better comments. In reading over this posting, I can fully understanding why I am not in marketing... LOL

Best of luck Albert-djan

Albert:
Any art or aby project for that matter can have a great outcome if done right
Specially when you combine it with a great culture that can stand out by itself as Armenian culture
Yougot half or even mor eof your positioning done just by relating the art to the Armenian culture
Now it is the way you will market it
Like Mark say did you define your market? are you marketing to Armenians or to general public or both as they are diffferent tactics to do it
It is a lot easier to do for the Armenian community as they are as I am sure you know a very tight net that kept their culture alive with the language, the schools, the events and the churches
To non-Armenians it is a different plan as you will have to draw on the Armenian connections you already have in the different communities to spread the word and increase awareness, Armenian live everywhere in the world from East to West they blended with the societies they live in, keeping their roots and culture intact so I say it is a great chance to succeed I would just look for a more dramatic slogan

Actually, I think "Armenian Art Revealed" is pretty good. It's stronger than "Discover Armenian Art" because "Revealed" implies getting an answer to an exciting, long-held secret; while "Discover" implies that the reader has to dig and work themselves.

What specific markets are you talking about? Are you promoting physical shows in museums? A series on public TV? Armenian art books? It will help for us to know specifically what you are promoting.

If I understand correctly, Armenia was the first nation in the world to have Christianity as its official religion. It was also quite war-torn with its ongoing struggle (practically a holocaust) at the hands of the Turks -- making its culture's survival practically a miracle. Both these facts would be interesting and intriguing to Westerners.

Are you promoting existing works or developing a new body of work for exhibition to an international audience?

If existing works, try to pick those that speak to the modern Armenian experience: what is it like to live in the 21st century in a society that still romances the 19th?

If new works, use the opinions of outside observers to guide and direct the creative process. Realize what the international community thinks about Armenia before creating the work.

Hopefully these web links will help with the second approach.

Disclosure: I consult for European IT firms. I promote international, multi-site hardware and software projects.

Hi Albert,

I think this is an excellent idea. Since i'm from India which has great history of Art and culture, i always feel that culture is what sets the tone for the evolution of both individual and the society. And with regard to the name "Armenain art revealed" i'm not very sure about the positioning. Armenian art is existing for over 4,500 years. And "reveal" might not be the perfect position. As per you description, if you are promoting the art and its influence of the society, a position like "Impact" "Evolution" etc might be apt. But again, this is my opinion after 10 mins of surfing the web. All the best for the success of the project.

Good day,
Manoj Kandasamy.

I think to impact on western society you need more agressive-memorable word than "revealed". One of the first things I saw in the airoport of Delhi was the slogan "Incredible India" on a large banner and it made sense to me.

Where can I learn [aka support :) ] more about the project? It seems to be promising.

Good idea. Any initiative which will forward Armenian even one step, I think its good action. Especially about Art, in case when we know that Turkey and Azerbaijan stilling our Arts. If your initiative for modern Art then it can be some stimuli for some thing new.

Hello All,

Any kind of project in our days is a good move - so you're doing right thing in any case :-) !

But..Why Armenian smart guys trying to show Armenian art or any other presense in the world to western community?! I lived in different countries such Russia, USA, UK and I would say..they don't care guys..and I think that if we care about our homeland then fisrt thing we should try to achieve : to show our local Armenians that our country is rich, smart, civil and has a huge potential to move forward. I know western guys pays for small local projects where goverment does not pay, but again..if art or sience are good and known enough in your country is up to other people to like it or not.

Create a simple banner for western people like " We will rock you!" and spend your efforts to make things happen in homeland!

Thanks,
Roman

Western Society is an awfully large market to go after.

Before you spend money on anything, decide if there is a more specific niche or hole to fill with your product.

If you cannot determine this on your own, hire a marketing research agency to do it for you. One in the country and/or the area you wish to launch in to.

To address your question specifically -- I am not particularly into art. I would not be interested in it no matter how you positioned it. This further illustrates my point that Western Society is a large market to go after, you could waste a lot of money trying to impress people like me that don't care about art.

Put more effort into tightly defining your target market, then test their receptiveness to your position. Better yet, what is your position currently?
