I worked with a company that had two sets of analytics one that was immediately available (but not as accurate) and one that you had to wait two weeks for but the information, because it was log based was impeccably accurate. Based on that experience, I choose real time metrics, so that you can be responsive to your users.

Wow...another good one.
Some of these are intertwined and difficult to isolate.
But if i can ONLY select one...
It has to be accuracy.

Hi Michael,

Conversion tracking (conversion in a very broad scope of its meaning, soft conversions and hard conversions).

That is a very good question. Though I am going to choose Actionable data is more important to me. Though I know that is not an option listed and can encompass more than one listed. The reason I say actionable data is that no analytics data (especially web analytics data) is ever truly accurate. There can be different reason that can contribute to this and as long as you are aware of the imperfections and the metrics are calculated the same I think actionable data is more important.

If you don't have Accuracy... Everything else on your list either falls apart or is meaningless.

If I had to add one to your list... I would say speed. How quickly can you turn RAW DATA into actionable Business Intelligence.

Best,

Rob

This is like putting me in the middle of a shoe department and saying, "You can only pick one pair."

:)

Having dealt with campaigns that did all of these at varying levels, I'd have to say anything related to conversion. It's ultimately what you're trying to measure, and it touches things like campaign tracking accuracy, etc.

If I can't see that the campaigns I'm running are resulting in customers, the rest of it seems pretty futile to me.

Accuracy stands for little if the information is obsolete. So i would choose to get 'real time' exactly perfect. The rest is merely measuring what is happening anyway:-)

Ease of use is important but not the most important in my mind, when it comes to analytics anyway. Sometimes you have to get deep down 'data' dirty to find the answers you seek.

Not all the info you seek will be served on a silver platter in a silver bowl with a silver spoon, and not all food is soup:-)

Accuracy is a must for any of the others to be useful / relevant, with the exception of Ease of use. If you have inaccurate data, your real time results, appended demographic data, campaign tracking and conversion tracking results are all skewed and don't paint an accurate picture for you to analyze.

Accuracy would be most important, otherwise, everything else is moot. If you make key business decisions on bad data, it can sink your business.

I would say conversion tracking. This your main focus to make money online. You it's ok to have traffic that turn into visitors, but you're looking for long term customers or buyers. This is what conversion is all about.
I hope this will help you in your search.

In my mind accurate data is key. More importantly processes and procedures need to be put in place and managed correctly. It's far to easy to screw up data without even knowing it until it's too late.

Accuracy. There is no point in caring about anything else if the data you have is inaccurate. Why have data. I am not about fooling myself, I would rather know something is really not working, then letting myself or client believe that it is.

I'm going to go against the grain and say none of the above. I believe trending analysis and off-site data integration are the most important. Conversion tracking would be my most important from your list.

Great question! For me, it would actually be ROI tracking, which is not the list here but could fall under Conversion Tracking.
In fact, we have a GA webinar coming up and would be talking about all of the above at the advanced level - please join us!

Accuracy. "It ain't so much the things we don't know as the things we know that ain't so ...."

Failures in all the others merely make the analysis useless -- and obviously useless. Failure in accuracy can make it destructive -- and not obviously so.

First Accuracy: What the point having wrong information? having precise information is vital in a campaign. Second, Real time: Perhaps we need to change the strategy in the middle of a campaign, process or whatever. In a third position, Tracking: marketing needs results.
