I would say that you definitely need to setup a corporate blog of your own...this allows you to build brand awareness through the articles you write, become a thought leader in your space, and can create a good amount of LinkBait to help your site with search.
That being said, I would suggest also signing up for social media sites to control reputation management and the Search Engine Results Pages (aka SERPs).

The type of blog used by a company should be according to their goals and objectives online. While the foundational benefits of blogs are the same, across the board, not all blogs are created equal. My company uses all of the above, due to the many online marketing objectives that require them.
I would suggest, that we don't use any blogs for promotion.

As I know my current company doesn't use and promote any blog ( or it is not in my area of responsibility at the moment as far I don't know about this).

a) moving to b) We use a self-corporate blog that I update with interesting stories about prosthetic and orthotic technology, public policy, and stories about patients. I am hoping to turn it into a place where patients could post their own stories and photos, but that hasn't happened yet. It's more difficult with a customer base that does not use the internet much and is even less familiar with blogging.
I suppose the answer is a. Some blogs is used to be translated to other languages. For example,
