This is a very interesting question. If you could clarify it, that would be wonderful but based on my current understanding, I would propose it has something (but not everything) do to with contrasting financial and human values that co-exist inside an organisation. The corresponding relationship between these factors goes some way to reconciling (or not) this gap...

Transcend this thinking by sharing the new reality of the knowledge economy. Only 20% of the value of corporations today is tangible--what you are calling capital. The rest of the value is intangible which resides in people and knowledge.
