Is it feasible to hire a lawyer for $1500 ?

I have complained against a realtor in Las Vegas via the Department of Real Estate. The realtor and property are in Las Vegas, I live in North California. I have complained to get $1500 back from her, which she has gouched up. The next step in the process may be a hearing. Is it worth hiring someone to represent me for the hearing ? It is hard for me to be up there in Las Vegas since I have a new job. Can the hearing be done via writing ?

Attorneys cost $150 to $300 per hour. You need to be 100% sure you are in the right before getting a lawyer.

You'll be lucky to get enough time with one for that amount to brief them, allow them to research the case, and get them to attend.

If you are sure you are in the right, then ask if you can claim costs if you win.

Ted:

The goal of using a state licensing agency is that it doesn't cost any money.

You need to find out from the DRE if you can respond in writing.

Here in California, you can ask for punitive damages in Small Claims Court. Find out if that is true in Nevada.

Did the real estate agent (that is not the same as a "realtor") post a bond or other surety?

Please check the contract(s) and/or law(s) involved to see if there is any chance you are entitled to attorney fees if you prevail.

Have you sent her a certified letter demanding the return of the money, the reason why and the consequences if she fails to respond by a reasonable deadline (which you would of course also state). That is the first thing an attorney would probably do, although a letter from an attorney is going to carry more weight than a letter from a non-attorney. I'm curious, what is "gouched up"?
