Hi Karishma,

The question is not very clear to me? did you mean to check if the HR function constrains itself only to the activities within the subfunctions of HR as per the HRM or....

if this is what was the question, then i think the scenario is changing now... the members of the HR Fraternity are taking up other responsibilities like Corporate Planning & Strategy, Advisory role to the Board with regards to Inorganic Growth Stategy, HR is also playing key role in helping the organization define new Service lines considering the Demand and Supply of Capabilites within the Lines and Geography.
So, yes, these days the HR is slowly moving into a Business Partner role considering the P&L and taking up Practice leadership roles along with their regular HRM or HCM functional responsibilites...
Infact, if we look at few companies Org Structure, these days we can see the Head of HR reporting to CEO and also having dotted line to the Ops head. Previously, it was very common to see the HR Head being accountable only to the COO or the Ops Head.
but, the maturity, acceptability, growth of HR playing such diversified roles will take more time to gain its credibility probably another 3 to 5 years from now....
if you think more clarity is required, please feel free to contact me and i shall be more than happy to do the needful.

Thanks,
Venkat

In my opinion and basis what I have heard and seen, its a mixed bag.. Most organizations with a 'traditional' approach to things treat HR as a support function.. As a result, the HR team ends up limiting their scope to basic HR activities.. However, with the emergence of the new generation organizations - esp the IT / ITeS sector, there has been a change with HR starting to go beyond just the core scope to start playing a role in organizing events, providing assistance with issues like accommodation and transportation (was primarily done by admin if at all earlier), etc..... Its a great transformation in my opinion, especially since it helps the employees feel more cared about and the HR more involved right across the organization!

Most Indian companies confine their HR activities to the workplace. Very few so far, although the number is growing, extend HR activities to the employees' families. Even fewer reach out to society at large.

On the positive side, awareness is growing among companies with regard to their social responsibilities, side by side with Corporate Governance. The next few years will probably see an accelarating process of social responibility among Indian companies.

HI..
I Guess most of the companies dont, but yes there are few companies who do extend the helping hand even in case of relationship disputes, financial advisory, and so and so forth.

I think its time for the next generation organisation to extend the service bucket and go beyond....

Cheers !

As per me most of the companies do not follow helping practice. It is more dependent of HR personnel/individual than a company practice.
