How are you using social networking (Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc.) to manager your Human Resources functions?

It seems that HR professionals have been using LinkedIn successfully to help with recruiting, but my question is how are they using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, and other social networking/media platform and tools, to perform or get support in other HR functions?

Not really in an interactive way but these platforms provide great insights about the candidates. When it comes to professional events, I prefer working with LinkedIn. I would love to try creating real dynamic exchange forums with Facebook in the Benefits arena. Right now, I am successfully experimenting it in the entertainment one.

Pierre...I see so much opportunity here and have been speaking to my HR colleagues in the NE about these possibilities. HR can use these tools to enhance Recruitment, Orientation, Training, Communication, Collaboration, Skill Building, Engagement and more! HR should be partnering with Marketing to build the BRAND and optomize brand stewardship. We've really just scratched the surface!
Thanks for asking
Shawn

Social networking is a way of watching the world. As a HR professional I use LinkedIn, Twitter, my website and blog to join the world. It is fun and usefull.

I update my blog twice a week and send once a month all my connections at LinkedIn and Twitter by email an up-date. So everyone who is interessted can follow my activities at HRM. And also the other way around.

By using LinkedIn I am connected to serveral persons who give me information about their business and specialities. I join serveral groups which inform me about activities and dare me in discusions. I like to read their knowledge and motivation about HRM.

In Twitter I am connected to know what my connections are doing and what are they are tended to do. That's the way I see new ideas or innitiatives from my friends and colleages. It inspires me in HRM and give me serveral items to use in my blog. It is a new way of networking.

I think it's a new way of be connected with prospects an clients. It gives me upedated information and new ideas. I translate this to my work. As an PhD I am courious enough to see and hear from others what they think about the fit between Work and Employees. I call that: "AVAfit"

Hello Pierre,
I use social networking for various reasons. When I started using social media I found it was impossible to be successful without a strategy or plan. I asked myself what I expected to get out of it and based on those answers I strategically developed a plan.

Being a marketing professional my first and foremost strategy is to brand the company I am working for. Using social media I brand the company's work environment as I showcase them as an employer of choice.

I use social networking to announce events and trainings, gather fans and friends, and establish relationships from the conversations. I use it for collaborating with partners, communicating with other employees, sharing information. We share files, travel information, scheduling, recommendations, and even personal info.

I include social networking in most facets of everything I do from continuing education to event planning and I agree with Shawn, we have just begun to scratch the surface!

Thanks for the opportunity to answer your question!
Patsy

Great question, Pierre! I believe that the power of these tools is the way in which they meld the professional and the personal, helping me to keep in touch with the whole person in a way that was previously not possible. One of the reasons I love LinkedIn is that it keeps me in touch with my network, regardless of changes in contact information. From an HR perspective, I like the ability to use Twitter and Facebook to share intriguing research and ideas with like-minded contacts.

Due to privacy and security concerns, HR often uses corporate social networks. For example, Yammer is similar to Facebook, but it operates behind the firewall. Yammer has a variety of uses, including discussions of benefits and HR policies and other knowledge sharing.
