Hi Rob, I own and can recommend the following:

1) M&A:
Arzac -Valuation for mergers buyouts and restructuring -Wiley
Pratt -The market approach to valuing businesses -Wiley
Reed -The art of M&A -Mcgraw Hill

2) Corporate Valuation:
Brealey -Principles of corporate finance -Mcgraw Hill
Mercer -Business valuation -Wiley
Copeland -Valuation -Wiley
Damodaran -Security analysis for investment & corp fin -Wiley
Pratt -Business valuation body of knowledge -Wiley
Reilly -Valuing Intangible Assets -Wiley

3) Modelling:
Hitchner -Financial valuation: applications and models -Wiley
Vause -Guide to modelling companies -Economist
Tennent -Guide to business modelling -Economist

These should provide you a jump-start to other possibly more detailed works you may be interested in. Feel free to contact me directly should you have any questions. Also note there is a fairly good Wiki reference to building Excel models that covers the basics. (Please see link below).

Good luck and warm regards,

The best book I know of is a McKinsey & Co book titled, "Valuation: Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies."

Hi Rob,

I would recommend Dr Aswath Damodaran's homepage, linked below. He is a finance professor at NYU and has written three books on valuation. There is a lot of good content on his site to get you started.

Cheers,
Courtney

Follow-up to answer 1, "Valuation: Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies, Fourth Edition", by Wharton professor Wessels (among others) is considered the leading book at this field.

In addition to the book suggested by Craig I would suggest Valuing a business by Pratt, Reilly and Schweighs. Suggest to join the International Business Valuation Association too.
