Looking for speakers for National Conference
The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation (http://sp-foundation.org) is holding is 2010 National Convention in Los Angeles. We are looking for qualified speakers. You should be engaging, entertaining, humorous if possible and be able to relate to our audience. We provide support and grants for two specific related rare medical conditions. The ideal candidate may become our national spokesperson.
I'd love to receive suggestions from people who have experience in this area, speaker's bureaus, etc... We will accept vendor speakers. As a non-profit we expect to pay either none or a very small honorarium. Local press access and video a possibility.
Thank you for your help.

Travel, expenses - speakers don't donate their services when it's their livelihood - just a thought... Best wishes with your meeting.
We had Jonah Lehrer for our luncheon and he was very interesting, informative, and funny. Since he lives in California, it might be a good fit.
Jonah Lehrer is a contributing editor at Wired. He's also written for The New Yorker, Seed, Nature, the Boston Globe and is a contributor to Radio Lab. He's the author of Proust Was A Neuroscientist. His new book is How We Decide.

Hi Mike,
Below is a list of both individual speakers and speakers bureaus in the Los Angeles area listed on our directory of event venues and event service providers- the Cvent Supplier Network. This might be a good jumping off point to finding the kind of speaker you're looking for. Best of luck!

There have got to be some funny and entertaining doctors, or physical therapists in the region perhaps ones that do stand-up as a hobby. A good LinkedIn search might turn one up. The chances of them reading this question are low.

In my opinion, the best speaker possible is Nick Vujicic, who has no arms and no legs, and has a speech powerful enough to easily make up for both. See one of his videos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGZYT50Bow4 and it will make you change your view on life.
