Hello Mr. Jain, 8v)
Since you are across the Pond, Shreyans I would recommend you seek help from a great talent I know by the name of Ian McAllister. I say this because you are wanting to change careers in the midst of an economic downturn and your professional experience is not exactly aligned in the most beneficial way.
Certainly, just changing careers would make this CV writing assignment challenging enough already, but when you add in the second challenge it is going to be... well you best just leave it to a truly talented CV writer like Ian McAllister. I say this because otherwise you could easily derail your career for a year or more in a job hunt while changing careers. You will see instantly why I sent you to him. He just oozes expertise from every pore. Obviously, I'm wonderful too, but you must get help from within your local job market where the local experts know all the hiring protocols and CV writing protocols best.
Simply click on Ian McAllister's name below in blue to visit his profile, read his wonderful reviews at the bottom and then visit his websites. You might want to start by sending in your CV for a free review and quote. But make sure you clearly mention what your career goal is (industry and job title) and mention you are changing careers.

I agree with Sahar. You don't have to work for a corporation with a big name for recruiters to notice you. Don't be afraid to list your experience and highlight your impact on the customers you served.
Hi Mr. Jain
Just come to say Good Luck to you! My wife is coming back to hunt a good job for herself after 3 years Gap too! He spent my 3 years in looking after the little baby. I have confidence in her
And you, a man with 3years successfully leading work in your business, has no reason to be afraid. Come on, guy! God bless you!

Personally, I have had mixed results. After a 3-year hiatus from the work force, I attempted to use one head hunter and approached all of the rest of my choices through direct contact with the organization.
My CV/resume format was based how I perceived the company during my research and I have used the techniques discussed earlier as well just a standard format where my prior experience and companies were listed together. I believe it is choice. You have to feel comfortable with how you think your chosen instrument presents you.

Hey Shreyans,
The proper way to approach this gap is to build your resume so it becomes a sales tool for getting you the position you want. You can redirect and position yourself as a top candidate for a management and/ or strategy position.
Use your transferable skills. Once you have mastered a skill in one career, you can transfer that skill to another field and to another career. Use descriptive terms such as managed, supervised, instructed, planned, organized, trained, directed, edited, recruited, wrote, sold, marketed, created, etc.
A well design resume is how you redirect your career.

Hi Shreyans,
My understanding from your question is that you have been running a business for 3 years and are now looking to go back into an employed position.
Hence, personally there is no real gap. It's good to focus on all the skills, experiences and how you have developed personally during this time and how this can be applied to the new position you are looking for.
The first step is to get real clarity in what it is that you want, what would be right for you, what you want to do etc. There are many organisations who value those who have taken an alternate route and developed many of the independant skills from running a business.
It is perhaps worth taking the time to speak to not only recruiters but also organisations about the things you mentioned to get their feedback and perspective, which should hopefully better inform you of how to take things forwards - informational interviewing is a good way to do this.

It seems to me that you don’t have a gap of employment – you successfully developed an education consultancy business. That is legitimate work experience. If you are now trying to go back to the “corporate world” after being self employed or serving as a consultant, you would simply list the position you have done for the last three years on your CV along with your other employment. Because you were self-employed or working as a consultant does not in any way negate your success or achievements. You served the business well, helped to launch/grow, and I’m sure take great pride in its successful operation. Please don’t feel that any of that is hindered just because there was no ‘big name’ company associated with that three year tenure! Success is success, and you should list that on your CV as an example of your talents just like any other work experience.
Best of luck to you in your job search!
Best,
Alesia
