What do you use for [working] group notes?

For example, I have a report with 17,000 line items. This is rerun and updated periodically. The report is filtered down (through a complicated set of rules) to 8,000 items which must be researched. Any of which might change when the report is rerun.

How do you keep track of the research when it is split among many people? What tools do you use?

(Me, I use a shared Excel master, marking items off when completed and cross this against new reports as they are generated with a match() function, then appending any additions to my master. But some people have problems using this. Which makes me work as secretary to update the master for those people. What do you use?)

Another set of web-based tools to review would be Backpack and Campfire in the 37 Signals suite. These are web-based tools that are accessible through any PC, Mac, or mobile device. Backpack allows you to share notes, files, calendar items, etc., while Campfire is a group chat and messaging tool that the team can use to communicate.

You might also want to look at Evernote's group capabilities. I use Evernote as an individual and really like the simplicity.

Hi James,

We use SharePoint to collaborate on all notes in our company. Then we use BrightWork to give us insight into how our projects are performing.

This gives us visibility into all projects and notes across our organisation.

Many of our employees are virtual. We use Google Apps for collaboration and it works great and it real-time. Other users can see who is logged in and making changes live (Google Docs, Spreadsheets, etc.)
