ROI for PPM Tool
I am attempting to complete an ROI to purchase a PPM tool for internal use in a large and dispersed IT department. We currently have a process in place that is maintained manually through several different home grown tools. Does anyone have suggestions on types of information to include beyond facilitation costs? Examples would be really appreciated!

Tressa,
when you say ROI, do you mean Return on Investment? Is PPM Project Portfolio Mgmt? Let me know then I can give you some information. I just return from a conference that has also of metrics on ROI and PPM.

Depending on your organization's standards for what can be included in ROI calculations, you might include some estimate of the "cost of failure" associated with not improving upon your current process. Conversely, you could attempt to quantify the improvement in productivity or effectiveness of the process you hope to implement - will it help you complete more of your projects on time, more economically, or with better quality? If the new process adds capacity for your department to take on more, or more complex projects, that may also represent substantial value. Depending on the industry you serve, competitive parity (or leadership) may also help your case.
Good Luck!

Tressa,
Before purchasing any Portfolio Management Software, ... learn how project portfolio management tools that aggregate status reports and opinions are failing to deliver on their promise, and why a Delivery and Value Assurance™ approach is superior.
