Hi Greg:

You haven't indicated whether the license plates are embossed or are just flat.

Two processes spring to mind - inkjet and pad printing. For basic 2-color printing, pad printing will probably give you the best results on polystyrene, so you'll get good ink adhesion and rub resistance. Probably a UV cured ink will give you the impact resistance you might need as well for such an application.

The best folks to work with on pad printing are Tampoprint. They supply printers for Coca-Cola's caps, so can print at high speeds.

Suggest you contact Ulli Auerswald at 772-778-8896, or by email at ulia@tampoprint.com and he can point you to one of their customers who is local to you - or your client.

If you want process printing, inkjet is an option, but also there is litho offset for printing on plastics (drinking cups, yogurt cups use this). The machines are usually designed to print off a mandrel, so your application might require something flatbed.

The machine supplier to contact is Polytype. Sales manager is Felix Gomez and you can reach him at (201) 995-1000 Ext.307.

Hope I've been able to help some.

Best regards,
