Towel service vs. Staff doing laundry

I have a client that is looking into having towels at a fitness center. What do you see as the pros and cons of having a towel service or having the staff do the laundry?

Are there specific guidelines that must be followed if the staff were to do the laundry (ie - what soap to use, how much bleach to use, OSHA regulations, disease management, etc).

Thanks

Leadership by example is a wonderful rule of thumb. I don't usually ask others to do something I'm unwilling or unable to do. For me it's a matter of consistency and quality. I know a number of businesses that do their own laundry and their is a price to be paid either way. So if you want consisently good quality, what measures would you have to put in place to ensure this with your staff? Sometimes the juice ain't worth the squeeze.
