What's the best way to buy electronics in large quantities?

From time to time, my business needs to purchase electronics such as digital cameras, camcorders and GPS units. At the moment we need 30 digital cameras. At the Kodak website (and on the phone with them) they will not let us buy this many. At Dell.com they have digital cameras, but discounts only apply for the first 5 purchased. Do we need to use a wholesaler? Any thoughts and ideas are much appreciated.

Hi Andrew,

Sounds like you need a distributor or a "direct distributor" like one of the catalog sales companies. I'm away from that end of the business now but Ingram Micro would fall in the first category and CDW is probably in the second.

I suggest you call them and speak to a SMB sales rep. Dell has these -- don't know about Kodak. Sounds like the websites are tailored for retail channels only. Good luck!

Cheers,

I'm not sure, but maybe trying to deal direct with a smaller retailer (eg not Best Buy), might net you a decent deal. Especially after the holidays when they might be trying to unload inventory.....bonne chance.
