Moving in NYC - how/where to hire strong guys per hour at short notice to help load the truck?

It's for loading boxes and furniture, carying them from the apartment via elevator to the truck.
Thanks in advance, all help so far is much appreciated.

Try Labor Ready (http://branchlocatorlr.laborready.com/), when I need someone, I can usually get someone that day or the next morning.

Best place, in New York, is the Merchant Marine academy in Great Neck (Long Island). Lots of strong young guys who know how to take direction and are very nice (yes sir, no sir). Used cadets from there several times, and it was great.

I would recommend searching Craiglist. There is a labor and moving section. You will surely find what you are looking for! Rather than posting your own ad letting people know that you need a mover. You can find your own!
