I had a 8,000 sq. ft. med. density Data Center and it with it's cooling units/PDU's, etc., consumed the same amount of power ($$$) as the adjacent 90,000 sq. ft. commercial office space (with it's cooling/lighting). So a good rule of thumb is 9-10 times more per sq. ft. as an estimate.

The article breaks down where the costs are coming from possible ways to reduce the costs. A lot depends on what your running and how you are running it. Modifying SOP may help.

There is also a report on estimating total consumption of servers etc.
