Iam currently using Linkedin to get customer reviews for my business. However people who are not on linkedin cannot see my reviews. Shouldnt Linkedin open itself so everyone can see reviews?
I feel this is a good strategy for Linkedin. It could expand Linkedin's user base. Moreover the credibility of the business being reviewed increases tremendously since the reviewer's profile is visible . Linkedin can beat other review based sites hands down. Any comments would be appreciated.

If someone makes a recommendation about your business, that information is seen in your public profile. if you are suggesting that you would want anyone to provide a review who is not a member, that opens LinkedIn to a huge volume of negative content, spam and very low quality participation. The very nature of LinkedIn is it's member based quality aspect makes this site far superior to most.
If you are looking for publicity or opportunities to get more people to see what you offer, it's better to initiate a search engine optimization campaign for your own web site where you can then provide a feedback system to site visitors directly.

I need to apologize Shyam - you are correct - only members can see the recommendations people make on your profile, so I would agree this is a needed value that LinkedIn would be wise to make happen!

There is a possibility of achieving this Shyam, but certainly not a short cut at that, you'll need to maintain a separate website for your business and/or a blog site, so whenever any one writes in here you'll have to contact them individually and directly. By contacting them I mean, you ask them for permission to transfer/use their feedback on your personal/business site, or request them to write their feedback on that site as well apart from this one...
This can be a tedious process and a time-consuming one, besides every one may not be interested in taking time out to write at two different places.
But, for those interested, it will be an added gain to you as you'll be generating more traffic at your site...

A recommendation with no background is meaningless to me. If I can not see the profile, where is the credibility?

Since all sorts of other information is allowed on your public profile, I see no difficultly in allowing recommendations to be seen. As with other public profile information, you can choose whether or not it can be seen.
Perhaps LI is worried about getting the permission of those who posted the recommendation, but I can't see why they would object.
