Best bet is to think about attending the NIC conference in September. It's a national conference for owners and operators of senior housing, and the conference takes place in Chicago this year. It is held at the downtown Sheraton near the river. Great event for networking.

Check with Wilkinson Development. www.wilkinsondevllc.com. They are a group that develops independent and assisted living facilities in numerous markets. Although I don't know the name of their operations partner, I know they have one.

You can start with the Illinois Department on Aging.

Clarification added July 10, 2008:

Long-term care facilities are composed of skilled nursing and residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFE). It would help if you distinguish which/both, as they are licensed by different agencies, and accountable to different regulations.

Clarification added July 10, 2008:

I think you're concentrating on RCFE's. If so, you're looking for someone with an RCFE certification. They probably are currently operating a facility or multiple facilities. You could get a contact list of the existing facilities from your Area Agency on Aging.

Search for this category of business in www.whitepages.com. Cross reference the search results with the Illinois Secretary of State website's "corporatation search." This site will generally give you the name of an officer of the company and a mailing address. You may need to then go to www.zabasearch.com to find a phone number for the person.

Senior housing net has a pretty extensive listings by categories.
It gives a brief but decent overview of types then you can look specifically at locations and find the operators.
